Kevin Owens has confirmed the reason behind his decision to remove himself from WWE programming as he missed Monday’s episode of Raw.
The former Universal Champion did so during an appearance on today’s WWE’s The Bump episode. This is where he noted that he decided it was a wise move to stay with his family after a developmental talent had tested positive for COVID-19.
Owens traveled with his family to Tennessee and is staying in a cabin.
“I mean I’m great, I’ve always been great, due to the circumstances that happened over the last week..the positive coronavirus test that happened in the company I thought it was wiser for me to stay with my family that day. I told the people in charge of my decision and they [WWE] didn’t even flinch. They were like, ‘Okay.’ That’s it.”
“You know there’s no push-back I mean I don’t think there would be push back on anybody, but also they know once I make my mind up that’s the way it’s gonna be. They were respectful of my decision. I’m glad that I took it and I figured it was the best thing for my family.”
This lines up with reports that surfaced last week regarding his decision. It was first reported by Dave Meltzer that Owens’ wife’s grandfather passed away from COVID-19 in the past couple of weeks.
As a result, the belief is that the combination of the death in the family and the talent testing positive, it made the family concerned about him working the TV tapings where someone had just tested positive.
As of this writing, there’s still no word yet on when he’ll be back on television.
