Reason why Kurt Angle was chosen as WWE2k18’s downloadable character

Who would have thought WWE’s video game franchise would be such a good way of predicting what’s to come in WWE? But for the past few years the people involved in 2k’s hype for their WWE game have went on to participate in some of the biggest angles of the year.

When Ultimate Warrior was featured as a downloadable character people thought it was odd but could be a telling sign that fences had been mended between McMahon and Warrior. As it turns out they weren’t fixed yet but Warrior’s meetings in relation to the game helped build a bridge to the WWE Hall Of Fame.

Sting and Goldberg are pretty much the same stories but they actually came back and worked a few matches. It was said in the recent issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Sting would have probably returned to the ring either way but being a part of the video game certainly helped things along.

With Ultimate Warrior and Goldberg though there was no chance they would have come back to WWE if not for being a part of the 2k game.

It was also noted Vince McMahon is the primary decision maker on who gets the cover of the game and who is the special downloadable character. It was noted Kurt Angle would have probably been approved either way because he never really burned any bridges with WWE upon his exit. Unlike in the cases of Goldberg or Ultimate Warrior specifically there didn’t seem to be any bad blood in the water.

CM Punk is probably the only superstar Vince McMahon wouldn’t approve at this point, but seeing how this partnership with 2k has helped mend so many relationships already it isn’t an impossibility. Meltzer noted Vince McMahon might actually approve having CM Punk as a part of the game in time.

The biggest fear concerning Kurt Angle was that something bad would happen to him while he was “under their watch” but since Angle has seemed to clean up a lot of the aspects of his life that worried WWE it was a no-brainer he would be approved.

At this point it’s still unknown if Kurt Angle will return to the ring as he says he hasn’t even been tested for in-ring competition yet. But never say never in WWE.
