Legendary announcer Mike Tenay was reportedly in talks for a return to commentary at the recent WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event, but he did not appear on the show.
While it was known that Tenay had been discussed for the event, Dave Meltzer reported in a F4WOnline Daily Update that WWE did approach him about working the show. However, the two sides were unable to reach a financial agreement.
Tenay has been retired from wrestling commentary since leaving TNA in 2016. As he has been enjoying retirement, he has reportedly turned down previous offers from multiple companies, including WWE, TNA, GCW, and AAA.
The potential appearance would have been fitting, as Tenay debuted his WCW commentary at the promotion’s “Worlds Collide” event in 1994. That performance led to a full-time role with WCW and later a lengthy run as the original voice of TNA.
