On Tuesday night’s SmackDown Live, he was not backstage. Instead, he attended the Nashville Sounds Triple-A baseball game. Fans have speculated on his status with the company since he’s only appeared on a handful of live events since WrestleMania 35 and the only big show he’s been on since early April is Super ShowDown as part of the 50-man battle royal.
Fans of Rusev have nothing to worry about. As noted by Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the reason why you haven’t seen much of Rusev lately on WWE TV is that he asked for time off. Meltzer noted that Rusev is expected back shortly.
Hopefully, Vince McMahon decides to do more with him when he returns to action. People in WWE that I’ve spoken with have always been high on Rusev and feel like he still has the potential to be a main eventer. “He’s one of the good dudes in the locker room,” said one WWE source.
