As noted, Charlotte defeated Sasha Banks to become the new WWE Women’s Champion at Sunday night’s SummerSlam pay-per-view event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Banks losing the title was the planned result going into the event as Banks is currently dealing with an undisclosed injury and needed time off to heal, according to PWinsider. WWE made the decision to put the title back on Charlotte about a week ago.
Banks has been pulled from several upcoming WWE events and is scheduled to return to in-ring action at the September 23rd live event in Moline, Illinois. That has caused some speculation among fans because the rumor going around within the business was that more wellness policy suspensions could be on the way. No one has confirmed anything so, unless we hear otherwise, we are going to assume that Banks’ sabbatical is just injury-related.
