Reason why WWE added Nikki Cross to SmackDown Women’s Title match at Extreme Rules

Although WWE originally announced that Bayley would make her next title defense as SmackDown Women’s Champion against Alexa Bliss at the upcoming Extreme Rules pay-per-view event, a big change was made earlier this week.

After Nikki Cross won her Beat The Clock Challenge match in quicker time than Bayley on Monday’s Raw, she added herself to this title match. This comes after Bliss missed recent WWE TV events due to an illness.

Now, Cross will team up with Bliss to take on Bayley for the title in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match. Dave Meltzer noted on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that Bliss is currently suffering from a “really bad” sinus infection and plans changed due to Bliss’ illness. Thus, that’s the reason Cross was added to the contest.

The Extreme Rules pay-per-view event takes place on Sunday, July 14th, 2019 in Philadelphia, PA at the Wells Fargo Center and will air on the WWE Network and some traditional pay-per-view outlets.
