Reason why WWE announced Randy Orton for Men’s Royal Rumble Match

Coming out of last month’s WWE TLC pay-per-view event, it’s been reported that WWE had plans to book another gimmick match between Randy Orton and “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at the Royal Rumble.

However, WWE has announced that Orton will work this year’s Men’s Royal Rumble Match. This has caused some fans to speculate whether WWE still has plans to book Orton vs. Wyatt at the Royal Rumble.

This also comes at a time where Wyatt has been kept off television since being burned alive at TLC while Alexa Bliss has kept the feud going with Orton on television.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Orton’s Royal Rumble entry was a “red herring.” It means that WWE did this to mislead fans to think Orton wouldn’t wrestle The Fiend at the Royal Rumble. There’s still no date known for Wyatt’s return to TV.

Meltzer wrote, “announced for the Rumble at this point are Bryan, Lashley, Styles, Orton (which was a Red Herring when it was announced but obviously everything is open to change).”

WWE Royal Rumble takes place on January 31, 2021 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
