Reason why WWE nixed top match on Monday’s Raw

Braun Strowman vs. Randy Orton had been advertised for several days leading into Monday’s episode of Raw. However, it didn’t happen.

It was reported before the show went live that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon had arrived late to the building and there were changes being made to the script. Thus, the company went in a different direction as Orton wrestled Riddle in a singles match while Strowman teamed with Drew McIntyre for a tag team match against T-BAR and Mace.

Pwinsider.com reported that when the production meeting started on Monday afternoon, the Strowman vs. Orton match had been changed without an explanation. Also, Strowman was written into the McIntyre storyline. It came down to a call made by McMahon.

This would have been the first singles match between Orton and Strowman. As it stands right now, there’s no word yet as to whether WWE is saving the first Strowman vs. Orton singles match for a later date, but the two stars didn’t interact on Monday’s Raw.

Instead, their storyline connection started last week when they both worked a triple threat match, which was won by McIntyre as he earned the right to challenge Bobby Lashley for the WWE Title at the WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view event.
