The latest example of “plans change” in WWE is the decision to pull back on the planned Becky Lynch vs. Asuka match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble.
As previously written, the company announced the match on WWE Main Event of all places. You can click here to see the video announcement.
A day later, Paige was asked to go on social media to give a storyline reason on why the match was not official. Her reason was that she tried to make one last match before being relieved of her General Manager duties and then added that the match is not official.
Post Wrestling’s John Pollock shed some light on why the match was advertised and quickly pulled.
Pollock noted that the plan was for the match to be announced on SmackDown Live this past Tuesday. Then it was decided that the Rumble card would be re-evaluated and the match may or may not happen.
The reason why the Asuka/Lynch video aired on Main Event is because the studio had the old information. So this appears to be a classic case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing.
Asuka vs Becky Lynch at the Rumble was the plan and was going to be announced on SmackDown. It was decided Tuesday that the Rumble card would be re-evaluated and the match may or may not happen, but the studio had the old information and used it for Main Event this week
