We don’t see Rena Lesnar (aka former WWE star Sable) often because she has kept a low profile since leaving the wrestling business in 2004. A new photo of Sable has popped up online. As you can see (scroll down for the photo), Sable still looks great.
For those of you unaware, Sable was one of the most popular names in WWE during the Attitude Era.
Debuting in 1996 alongside Hunter Hearst Helmsley (Triple H), Sable initially served as a valet. However, her alliance with “Wildman” Marc Mero proved pivotal in her career trajectory. While initially supporting Mero, Sable’s popularity quickly eclipsed his, fueled by her captivating presence and the growing momentum of female empowerment in popular culture.
A defining moment in Sable’s career came when Mero suffered an injury. This allowed her to step out of his shadow and embrace a more independent persona. Her defiant attitude and famous catchphrase, “This is for all the women who want to be me and all the men who come to see me,” solidified her connection with fans and established her as a symbol of female empowerment within the then-male-dominated industry.
Sable’s in-ring contributions further cemented her legacy. She engaged in notable feuds with other prominent female wrestlers of the time, including Luna Vachon and Jacqueline. Her victory in the WWF Women’s Championship match, making her the second woman to hold the title after its reinstatement, marked a significant achievement in her career and in women’s wrestling history.
However, Sable’s journey was not without its challenges. In 1999, she filed a lawsuit against WWE, citing allegations of sexual harassment and unsafe working conditions. This controversial departure sent ripples throughout the wrestling world and highlighted the complexities faced by female performers at the time.
Despite the controversy, Sable made a highly anticipated return to WWE in 2003. Her second tenure saw her reignite old rivalries and engage in new storylines, notably with Torrie Wilson and Vince McMahon. Although her second stint was shorter, Sable’s impact remained substantial.
Beyond her wrestling career, Sable’s influence extended into mainstream media. Her appearances in Playboy magazine further solidified her status as a pop culture icon. Sable’s legacy within WWE is undeniable, as she helped pave the way for future generations of female performers and contributed significantly to the evolution of women’s wrestling. She is remembered as a symbol of beauty, strength, and rebellion, leaving an indelible mark on the Attitude Era and WWE history as a whole.
