Drake Wuertz is no longer with WWE NXT.
It was reported by multiple people including PWinsider.com on Wednesday that Wuertz was released by WWE. Although not confirmed, there may have been other NXT cuts today as well. He started working for WWE in 2014.
Back in April, it was reported he had his duties reduced in recent months. Darryl Sharma had taken the role of the head referee in NXT, which Wuertz once was. Wuertz had been considered to fill the role of timing matches within NXT, but it was given to Scott Armstrong. Wuertz was also not offered the backup timing position as DA Brewer took over those duties.
Wuertz was suspended earlier this year and wasn’t allowed at the Capitol Wrestling Center for a short period of time.
In November, Wuertz responded to allegations that he is a supporter of the Proud Boys and Q-Anon, which started when David Bixenspan posted an article that featured screenshots showing Wuertz on Parler supporting posts from the Proud Boys group.
Wuertz was recently in the news for giving speeches during a County Commissioner’s meeting while backstage at the NXT TV event about mask mandates and then missing an NXT TV to attend a school board meeting for the Seminole County Public Schools about the same topic.
