Former WWE referee Mike Chioda, a veteran of the squared circle, recently shared his insights on the impressive ascent of Dominik Mysterio. On the latest episode of the “Monday Mailbag” podcast, Chioda, who worked alongside Dominik’s father Rey for many years in WWE, offered a glowing endorsement of Dominik.
Dominik Mysterio has rapidly become one of the most prominent heels in WWE. However, Chioda was quick to emphasize the stark contrast between Dominik’s in-ring character and his real-life demeanor. “I know he’s the best at being a heel, and I’m so proud of Dominik,” Chioda stated. “He is far from a jerk; he’s the most respectful young man I know.”
Having known the Mysterio family for over two decades, Chioda has had a unique vantage point from which to observe Dominik’s growth. “I’ve watched him grow up over the past 20 years because I’ve known Rey and Angie for many many years,” he shared. Chioda also complimented the family’s values, stating, “His daughter Aalyah is beautiful. They raise their kids beautifully.”
Chioda recalled his initial reaction to Rey’s plans for Dominik’s entry into the wrestling world. “When Rey told me he was going to get Dominik into the business, that he would be a wrestler, and that he was training him, I couldn’t believe how quickly it all happened,” he said. “Before I knew it, Dom was already on the big stage.”
Chioda attributes Dominik’s rapid success to his lifelong immersion in the industry. “He learned and grasped everything so quickly. He’s been around the business all his life, watching his dad, so he was very prepared,” Chioda noted. He acknowledged the challenges faced by those who follow in their parent’s footsteps, saying, “A lot kids try to follow in their father’s footsteps and don’t quite get there.” However, Chioda expressed his firm belief in Dominik’s potential for long-term success: “But I think this is one situation where he’s really going to succeed in this business for the next couple decades.”
The future is bright for Dominik in WWE and all indications are that he will become one of the cornerstones of the company for many years to come.
