AEW News

Released WWE star appears to be headed to AEW

Aleister Black was released by WWE last week alongside other stars such as Braun Strowman and Buddy Murphy due to budget cuts.

Black has a lot of options as to where he could be headed next as he would be a great addition to any roster he joins. Many fans speculated that AEW would pick him up if possible and that appears to be the case.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “while not a done deal, and it can’t be until 8/31, the strong belief is that Tom Budgen, the former Aleister Black, is headed here.”

Black is under a 90-day non-compete clause until August 31st. It was reported earlier this week that there’s been some talk that Black was cut prematurely and a push that the company should bring him back in.

Meltzer confirmed the talk in WWE about making the mistake in cutting him and pointed out that if WWE makes him an offer to return it could change the equation.

There’s been speculation that WWE could offer some released stars a new contract to come back, but at a reduced salary.
