Kairi Sane is a free agent, and she marked it with a short message that suggests she does not plan to stay quiet for long.
Sane posted a photo of herself standing beside a motorcycle on Wednesday, as her 90-day WWE non-compete is believed to have lapsed, as F4W/WON reported.
“How Far I’ll Go… See you soon,” Sane wrote.
She was among the roughly 25 names WWE released in April as part of a round of roster cuts following WrestleMania, a group that also included Aleister Black, Thea Trinidad, Nikki Cross, Dexter Lumis, Santos Escobar and the Motor City Machine Guns, all of whom reached free agency this week.
Her release was one of the more surprising ones. Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter shortly afterward, Dave Meltzer reported that Sane had been in the middle of a story teasing her standing up to Asuka’s bullying and reuniting as a team with IYO SKY, only for the angle to be dropped without a payoff. Per that report, part of WWE’s thinking was a belief that Sane wanted to move back to Japan at some point, and that factored into the decision to include her in the cuts.
Sane, 37, first came to WWE by winning the inaugural Mae Young Classic in 2017, going on to become NXT Women’s Champion and, alongside Asuka as The Kabuki Warriors, a two-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion. Before that she built her name in Stardom, where she was a former World of Stardom Champion.
She has not said where she is headed.
