The main event for WWE’s newly added (not officially announced) September 20th premium live event has been revealed. On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that the show, which will run head-to-head with AEW’s All Out pay-per-view, will be main-evented by John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar.
The match between the two icons is a clear sign that WWE is loading up the card for their first-ever main roster premium live event to go directly against a major AEW pay-per-view. “The main event for this show is Brock Lesnar and John Cena,” Meltzer stated. “So it’s, it’s a big one.” The event will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Saturday, September 20.
The Reason for Lesnar’s Absence in Paris
Meltzer also said that this booking is the reason why Brock Lesnar is not competing at the Clash in Paris premium live event at the end of August. “Which is why Brock’s not in Paris. Is because of this,” he explained. “So, you know they wanted him for this show, not for the Paris show, and that’s where Logan Paul got the gig.”
A Rivalry Renewed
The match will be Lesnar’s first in over 2 years. At SummerSlam just two weeks ago, he attacked Cena following his loss to Cody Rhodes. It marks the next major stop on John Cena’s farewell tour, which is set to conclude at the end of 2025.
A Storied History
The rivalry between John Cena and Brock Lesnar is one of the most significant of the modern era. Their match at Extreme Rules in 2012, which was Lesnar’s first back with the company, is remembered for its brutal realism. Two years later, at SummerSlam 2014, Lesnar famously defeated Cena in a dominant, one-sided match to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, a match that helped establish the legend of “Suplex City.”
