REPORT: FOX offered to help WWE sign CM Punk

It’s been well documented that some people at FOX were not happy about WWE not making a big offer to CM Punk for him to return. Instead, he signed with All Elite Wrestling.

Punk had a positive relationship with FOX Executives that dates back to when he was on WWE Backstage on FS1 as an analyst. It’s been reported that FOX was said to be “very upset” that a big offer was not made to keep him from going to AEW and that was the reason why WWE brought back Brock Lesnar.

Punk confirmed in an interview with ESPN last week that WWE did contact him through intermediaries and he listened, but talks went nowhere.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that those in WWE continually said they had no interest in him. It was said that once it became clear Punk could be headed to AEW, FOX wanted WWE to make an offer to him, but “WWE supposedly responded saying that the money figure he wanted was too high.”

FOX was so interested in Punk going to WWE instead of AEW that they “responded by wanting to help out.” However, “WWE officials then said there were other reasons they didn’t want him, the attitude issues and such.”

Punk stated in the ESPN article that he told WWE to not play games when they talked and he claims that they did just that. He noted that he knew exactly who they are and felt WWE continued to prove it.

Punk was in talks with AEW President Tony Khan about money and booking ideas for his return by February or March of this year.
