WWE considered going in a different direction for John Cena at WrestleMania Goes Hollywood as he wasn’t always set to take on United States Champion Austin Theory.
As exclusively reported by WrestlingNews.co. WWE planned to do Cena vs. Logan Paul at the event, but plans changed.
Paul had publicly expressed interest in doing the match with the former WWE Champion and even talked Triple H about it after Crown Jewel following his Undisputed WWE Universal Title match with Roman Reigns after Cena acknowledged his performance on social media.
Instead, Cena is slated to wrestle Theory while Paul will take on Seth Rollins. While speaking with GiveMeSport, WrestleVotes reported that the match is still on the table to happen at some point, including this year’s SummerSlam.
“Logan loved the idea and Cena was totally down it. They’d have made mega money and it’s just a matter of when. They want to tell a good story because they’re megastars, so there’s got to be a reason. The matches is very much on the table, even at a SummerSlam. All parties involved want to do it.”
