CM Punk spearheaded the idea of bringing Danhausen to WWE. Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the World Heavyweight Champion was the primary driving force behind the 35-year-old’s arrival in the company. Danhausen, who vocally and publicly backed Punk during their time in AEW, even after many others had soured on the “Best in the World,” finally made his debut at the Elimination Chamber 2026 PLE in his hometown of Chicago.
The debut saw Danhausen emerge from a mysterious crate that had been teased for weeks on WWE television. While the initial reveal was met with mixed-to-negative reactions from the live Chicago crowd—with some comparing it to the infamous 1990 Gobbledy Gooker debut—the creative team worked quickly to pivot the character’s presentation. Meltzer noted that while internal feelings on the signing were mixed, WWE leadership is banking on the “Very Nice, Very Evil” star’s proven ability to move units at the merchandise stand.
A Salvaged Debut and a Curse for The Judgment Day
Following the divisive reaction at the United Center, WWE streamlined Danhausen’s character for his Monday Night Raw debut in Indianapolis on March 2. Stripping away the over-the-top dancers and pyro, the segment featured Danhausen in a backstage skit with Raw GM Adam Pearce and members of The Judgment Day. The comedy resonated far better with the television audience, particularly when Danhausen placed his signature “curse” on Dominik Mysterio.
In a classic “Danhausen” moment, the curse seemingly bore fruit immediately, as Mysterio lost his Intercontinental Championship to Penta later that same evening. This pivot toward low-key comedic interactions has reportedly “saved” the character in the eyes of many fans and critics. Triple H addressed the debut during the post-show press conference, joking about the “bucket of teeth” given to Michael Cole and teasing a “fun time” ahead for the eccentric wrestler.
Merchandise Success and Future Plans
Despite the initial backstage divide over his signing, the financial returns have already been promising. According to PWInsider Elite, WWE officials are “pleasantly surprised” by early merchandise figures. Danhausen himself took to social media to confirm that his debut “Cursed!” t-shirt had become the top seller on WWE Shop, urging fans to “give Danhausen all of your human monies.”
