The Tyson Fury angle with Braun Strowman on WWE Friday Night SmackDown drew a lot of attention because the assumption is that their altercation will lead to a match at WrestleMania 36 in Tampa, Florida.
It looks like we’ll see more of Fury on WWE programming and it’s a lot sooner than you would think.
McCarthy noted that ESPN and FOX worked together on the deal with the goal of promoting Fury vs. Deontay Wilder and the deal to get Fury on SmackDown was agreed to on Monday. The Fury vs. Wilder fight is scheduled for December 7 in Saudi Arabia.
Perhaps, this may have something to do with why Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker did not appear on the show since they probably had to bump some things off the show to fit in the segment with Fury and the closing segment with Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar.
It appears that Austin and Taker were pulled from the show on short notice or sometime earlier in the week because Austin was advertised in a commercial that aired during the Kickoff show on FOX. Taker said on Instagram that he was told that he was no longer needed for the show.
Fury appearing at Crown Jewel does not necessarily mean that he will wrestle on the show. In fact, I would bet against it because the last thing he needs is to get injured before his boxing match on December 7. WWE is hyping that he will be appearing this Monday night on Raw with an open microphone.
