REPORT: Vince McMahon ‘Unlikely’ To Attend John Cena’s Final Match

Despite the close relationship between the two, it appears not likely that Vince McMahon will be in attendance for John Cena’s final match. According to a report from Bryan Alvarez, the feeling within the industry is that McMahon will not be present at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.

Attendance Is ‘Increasingly Unlikely’

Alvarez reported on Thursday that while a definitive decision may not have been made, the chances of McMahon appearing are slim. “The current feeling [is] that the chances McMahon attends are ‘increasingly unlikely — not impossible, but unlikely,'” the report stated.

McMahon’s Current Ventures And Legal Battles

Since his last on-screen appearance in June 2022—where he introduced Cena for his 20th anniversary—McMahon has largely stepped away from the wrestling spotlight. He is currently focusing on his new private investment firm, 14+I, which targets sports, media, and entertainment sectors.

However, McMahon remains embroiled in significant legal issues. The sexual misconduct and trafficking lawsuit filed by Janel Grant in January 2024 is ongoing. Additionally, he faces a “ring boys” lawsuit claiming he and his wife, Linda McMahon, were aware of sexual abuse by former crew chief Mel Phillips in the 1980s and failed to intervene.

Cena’s Final Opponent To Be Decided On SmackDown

While McMahon’s presence is doubtful, Cena’s final opponent is set to be determined imminently. The finals of the “Last Time Is Now” tournament will take place on SmackDown, featuring a clash between Gunther and LA Knight. The winner will earn the right to face Cena in his retirement match in Washington, D.C.
