Keith Lee picked up his biggest win on the main roster thus far at Sunday’s Payback pay-per-view event.
The former NXT Champion beat Randy Orton in a singles match from the WWE ThunderDome. The match went for about 7 minutes and saw Lee hit a sit-down powerbomb for the win.
This came after their first match on last week’s episode of Raw, which also marked Lee’s main roster debut.
Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT reported on Monday morning that a source told him Vince McMahon had tasked Orton with making Lee a star before the match.
The source stated, “Imagine how high Vince has to be on someone to have Randy Orton put them over clean as a whistle. Orton, doing the best work of his career, wants to help create that next generation of stars. He gets it.”
It was added that McMahon wants to ‘push Lee to the moon’ and the WWE Chairman thought the former WWE Champion was the perfect person to do that right now.
It was previously reported that Orton would like to work with some NXT stars such as Adam Cole and Tomasso Ciampa. He hasn’t had the chance to do that just yet, but perhaps down the line, it can happen.
