WWE has reportedly closed its doors to incoming talent from rival promotions, telling wrestlers from TNA and AEW that they are not currently looking to hire new personnel. According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the company believes its developmental system is stocked with ready-made talent, reducing the need to bring in outside names.
Meltzer noted that despite the perceived economic stability of TNA’s new TV deal, uncertainty within the promotion has led to several talents reaching out to WWE. However, the response has been largely negative.
“We were told that of late talent from both TNA and AEW who have called WWE have been told that they aren’t looking at hiring new people,” Meltzer reported. “The idea is that they have so many in developmental, many of whom are ready that they don’t need new people.”
This hiring freeze is reportedly not an absolute rule, with Meltzer clarifying that exceptions would likely be made for top-tier stars or specific high-value targets. “This is not an absolute, and obviously guys the level of Jericho or Slater wouldn’t necessarily fall into that category,” Meltzer added.
The report comes amidst news that TNA Wrestling has signed several key roster members to short-term extensions. Jake Something, Steve Maclin, Zachary Wentz, and AJ Francis have reportedly inked three-month deals that will keep them with the promotion through the beginning of 2026. These shorter agreements offer flexibility for both the talent and the company, but also contribute to the sense of instability that has prompted some to look elsewhere.
This shift in WWE’s recruitment strategy follows the recent signing of former TNA World Champion Joe Hendry, who has already transitioned to the NXT roster.
