Rey Mysterio was in the middle of contract negotiations with Vince McMahon last summer. The talks had been going back and forth for a few months with the main issue being over money.
Although Mysterio did stay with WWE, he did get an offer from AEW. It was reported that AEW made an offer that equaled the WWE’s per-match offer, but the WWE offer was higher because it was for more dates.
The two sides were able to come to an agreement on a new deal that will keep the former WWE Champion under contract for the next three years. It should be noted that when Mysterio was in contract talks, he wasn’t under contract with WWE despite appearing on TV. Thus, when he got the offer from AEW, there was a real possibility that if he wanted to appear on Dynamite then he could have. Since it was reported the two sides came to an agreement, neither side had confirmed it up until now.
Mysterio did an interview with Sports Illustrated where he confirmed that he has signed a new deal.
“We never made the signing of my new deal public, but there is definitely going to be more time to see Rey Mysterio in WWE. I’m going to keep wrestling, at least until Father Time catches up and says, ‘It’s time to go.’”
Mysterio also talked about the progression of his son Dominik in WWE and more. Check out the full interview here.
