The bitter family feud between Rey and Dominik Mysterio was reignited on Monday Night Raw, culminating in a physical confrontation after Dominik declared himself the “King of the Luchadores.”
The segment began with Intercontinental and AAA Champion Dominik Mysterio in the ring. He boasted, “I proved on Saturday that I’m the greatest Intercontinental Champion and AAA Champion of all time.” He didn’t stop there, adding, “I am the greatest Luchadore of all time, I’m king of the Luchadores, and there’s nobody that can stop me.”
This brought out his father, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. “I don’t care that Dominik is calling himself the greatest champion of all time,” Rey said. “But I have to draw the line when he says he is king of the Luchadores.” Rey pointed out that every time Dominik makes that claim, “he’s insulting the family and their blood.”
Rey then challenged Dominik’s disrespect for Lucha Libre history, asking, “What about El Santo, Blue Demon, Eddie Guerrero?” Dominik showed no respect for the legends, replying, “I’m better than all of them.” This infuriated Rey, who shot back, “You can disrespect me, but you’re not going to disrespect Lucha Libre.”
Dominik accused his father of being “jealous” and told him to “get out of his ring.” Rey agreed to leave but delivered a scathing parting shot. “As long as I’m around, Dominik will never be king of the Luchadores, this will never be your ring, and you will never be the greatest Mysterio,” Rey declared.
An enraged Dominik went to punch his father, but Rey blocked it and sent Dominik onto the ropes. Rey Mysterio then successfully hit the 619. As Rey went to the top rope to follow up, Dominik quickly scrambled out of the ring and retreated up the ramp to end the segment.
