Rey Mysterio made a surprise appearance at Saturday night’s House of Hardcore 8 in Philadelphia, PA. Rey came out to help Tommy Dreamer as Tommy was getting beat up by current TNA stars Ethan Carter III and Eric Young. At one point he hit a 619 on both men at the same time and then celebrated with Dreamer. Rey was said to be super over with the crowd in Philly. Shortly before Rey came out (before Eric Young defeated Tommy Dreamer), there were loud “F*** TNA” chants.
I believe this would be Rey’s first appearance at the ECW arena since 1996 when he did a few shows for the original ECW. Rey cut a promo afterwards and said that he’d be a pissed off Mexican if Dreamer did not invite him out to the show tonight. Rey said that the first city to welcome him in the United States was Philadelphia and the first company was ECW. He thanked the fans. That was followed up by a “muchas gracias” chant.
Dreamer said that Rey, Konnan, and Paul Heyman helped bring Lucha Libre into the United States and that he and those guys are “la familia” for life no matter what. The segment was said to have gotten over huge with the crowd.
Mysterio was booked for an appearance at Dave and Buster’s yesterday so it made sense that since he would already be in town for the weekend that he’d be asked to appear on Dreamer’s show.
