Former WWE/ECW/WCW star Rey Mysterio recently spoke with Title Match Wrestling about various topics. During the interview, he was asked about WWE bringing back the Cruiserweight division. He noted that from the beginning of his wrestling career, high-flying was his style and he created new moves throughout his career, which made him a better talent. He noted the fans who did not see the original Cruiserweight division now get to see that kind of style. He noted that himself, Psychosis, Juventud Guerrera, and many others introduced that style to the US. “X-Pac was one of the first guys to be doing it when WWF was around, and along came the Hardy’s; they’re all the innovators of the Lucha Libre style.”
When asked about his time in ECW, Mysterio noted that it was an amazing experience due to the fan base and those who worked for the promotion. “The talent that was part of that promotion, it wasn’t just one thing. It was many things that worked together and made this product so well.” He noted that ECW made him known in the US just like it did for Dean Malenko, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, and Eddie Guerrero.
