Rey Mysterio Reveals Timeframe For Return From Injury

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is on the road to recovery and is hoping to be back in the ring by the end of the summer. The legendary luchador has been out of action since suffering a torn groin on the final episode of SmackDown before WrestleMania 41.

The injury forced Mysterio to miss his scheduled WrestleMania match against El Grande Americano, with Rey Fenix stepping in as his replacement. Appearing as a guest on LA PLATICA, Mysterio detailed the surprisingly simple moment the injury occurred.

“So, I was explaining to someone yesterday that I tore my groin. He goes, ‘How did it happen? Was it when they pulled you?’ I said, ‘No…’ The guy that I was wrestling stood in front of me. He bailed out the ring underneath the bottom rope and I went to chase him and when I pushed off with my left leg, I just heard a (rip),” Mysterio explained. “Like, that’s it? I tore my groin like that? And yeah, usually it happens on the simplest sh*t.”

During his time away, Mysterio also had surgery to fix a busted eardrum. He has since begun the rehabilitation process and is targeting a return in the next couple of months. This timeline aligns with Mysterio being advertised for WWE’s house shows in Mexico in late July.

“Good. Pretty good,” Mysterio said of his recovery. “I started my PT. Not to mention, I had a busted eardrum as well so I fixed that during my time off. I’m on the road to recovery. I should be back hopefully by August.”
