Rhea Ripley responded to recent comments made by WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill. Ripley published a statement on her Instagram Stories addressing Cargill following an exchange on the social media platform X.
In the Instagram Story, Ripley posted a message stating that the two are not friends and accused Cargill of attempting to defame her character.
“Not having fun. Not friends. Learn to work and never lie to defame someone’s real human character by ‘breaking the 4th wall’,” Ripley wrote.
The public interactions between the two performers began on March 1. Ripley initiated the exchange by tagging Cargill in a post that included two interview clips from 2023 and 2024. In the provided footage, Cargill referred to Ripley as a “dream opponent.” Cargill also described Ripley as a “powerhouse” who “ragdolls people around,” acknowledging Ripley’s winning streak and stating that she was “top right now.”
Cargill responded to Ripley’s post by sharing a 25-second video from her appearance on the “Beyond the Bell Podcast.” In the clip, Cargill held her WWE Women’s Championship and dismissed her previous praise, stating, “I just be talking.”
Cargill accompanied the video with a caption that questioned Ripley’s social media presence.
“HA! I just be talking . & which member of our social team found that video for you???? Cause we know they always have to find a way to keep you ‘on top’ going into mania,” Cargill wrote.
Ripley replied to Cargill’s post, focusing on Cargill’s admission that she was just talking.
“All you seem to do is talk… And that’s literally it,” Ripley stated.
Cargill then responded with an accusation that Ripley actively complains to the WWE writing staff for preferential treatment.
“Talk??? Like the hours you spend talking to creative?” Cargill posted.
The interactions occur as both women prepare to face each other at WrestleMania 42. Ripley recently secured the opportunity to challenge Cargill for the WWE Women’s Championship by winning the Women’s Elimination Chamber match on February 28 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Ripley competed against Tiffany Stratton, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Raquel Rodriguez, and Kiana James inside the steel structure. During the final moments of the match, Stratton climbed to the top rope to execute a maneuver, but Ripley pushed her into a pod. Ripley then executed her Riptide maneuver on Stratton to secure the pinfall victory.
Cargill has maintained a consistent presence on television since joining the company. After debuting in the 2024 Royal Rumble match, she formed a tag team with Bianca Belair. Cargill later captured the WWE Women’s Championship after winning the 2025 Queen of the Ring tournament and successfully challenging for the title at the SummerSlam event. She has held the championship on the SmackDown brand since that victory.
Because Ripley and Cargill are scheduled to compete against one another for a championship at WrestleMania 42, the exact nature of their ongoing social media conflict remains unconfirmed. This situation is either an elaborate, scripted storyline designed by WWE to blur the lines of reality and build interest for the upcoming event, or it is a scripted rivalry that has resulted in a real-life conflict, where genuine personal frustrations have bled into the public interactions.
