Ric Flair says he and Wendy Barlow are not back together as a couple, and has asked people to stop reading it that way.
Flair posted on Saturday that Barlow had come running back to him, in a characteristically boisterous message that was widely reported as a reconciliation. On Sunday he wrote again to put a different frame on it.
“Wendy And I Are Not Renewing A Relationship. We Are Renewing A 34 Year Friendship. She Has Her Own Residence And I Have Mine. She Is Coming To Tampa Primarily To Take Care Of Her Parents, Who Are Both In Their 80s And Not In Good Health.”
“Wendy Will Continue To Do What She Does Best, Travel The World, And Help People Who Are Struggling In Other Countries. I’ll Resume What I Do And Love Most Which Is Attending Public Events And Signing Autographs At Meet & Greets.”
He then addressed the response to the first post.
“Please Don’t Turn Something Positive Into Something Negative. If That’s All You Have To Do, Find Something Better To Do.”
“The One Part I Am Sure Of, Which She Reminds Me Whenever We Speak, Is That She Will Always Be There For Me If I Get Sick Again, And I Was SICK For Two Years! Her Whole Family Took Care Of Me. Find Someone Else To Hate On! Wendy And I Are Good.”
The thirty-four years dates to WCW rather than to the relationship. The two met there in 1993, when Barlow appeared alongside him as Fifi the Maid on Flair for the Gold, and reconnected years later. They were engaged in 2016 and held a wedding ceremony in Florida in September 2018.
She was with him through the health crisis he refers to, driving him to the hospital in Atlanta in August 2017 and staying through the month he spent there.
Flair is 77. Barlow is Canadian and a former professional tennis player who won five national singles titles before moving into television.
