WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair recently spoke with Bully Ray and Dave LaGreca on Sirius XM Busted Open Radio about Goldberg vs. The Undertaker at the WWE Super ShowDown pay-per-view in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Flair was asked about the criticism of this match and what he thinks went wrong. He started out praising Taker and Goldberg for their accomplishments in wrestling.
According to the pro wrestling legend, he doesn’t think the problem was their age. Instead, the problem is asking them to work only two or three times a year with a long stretch of time in between matches. Flair doesn’t think working out in the gym is the right strategy but rather getting in the ring and going full speed is to be prepared for a match.
Finally, Flair thinks the match would’ve worked if WWE went with the same booking as Goldberg beating Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series in quick fashion then fans would’ve loved it but since they didn’t, fans criticized it.
“I don’t like it, but that doesn’t mean that they cannot have an opinion,” said Flair. “I don’t have an agenda here. I cannot let a minute or two of fatigue define anybody. It’s funny, had they gone on one more minute perfect and hit it, everyone would have been like ‘Oh my god that was perfect.’”
