WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has opened up about the recent passing of his friend and iconic rival, Hulk Hogan. On The Ariel Helwani Show on Monday, Flair shared some poignant thoughts on Hogan’s final days and also provided an update on his own recent health battles.
The wrestling world was stunned last week by the news that Hogan had passed away at the age of 71. Flair, one of Hogan’s closest friends, offered a unique and personal perspective on the loss.
“I Think He Just Got Tired”
Flair reflected on the immense physical toll that a long career in wrestling took on Hogan. He believes the cumulative effect of dozens of surgeries is what ultimately wore down the legendary star.
“I think he just got tired,” Flair said. “I mean, 11 back operations, hip replacements, now a neck surgery. I mean, how much can your body take, you know? We’ve all put ourselves in ridiculous positions in the business.”
Flair revealed that he had spoken with Jimmy Hart the day before Hogan’s passing and that things seemed to be fine. When asked how Hogan should be remembered, Flair praised him as a generous person and the biggest star in the history of the business.
Flair’s Own Health Update
During the interview, Flair also discussed his own recent health scare. In June, he confirmed he was battling skin cancer, but he announced last week that he is now cancer-free.
Despite his own serious health history, including a near-death experience in 2017, Flair told Helwani that he currently feels great physically. “Here I am, I’m five years older than Hulk and I don’t hurt at all,” Flair said. “I’ve had some serious health issues, but I don’t have an ache or pain in my body.” He then added with some dark humor, “And it bothers me and of course it gives me anxiety that I could be next [laughs].”
