WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg, real name Brian James, left WWE today. BodySlam.net was first to report the news. PWInsider.com reports that the word making the rounds is that he made the decision to leave his position on the company’s creative team, where he had been working on the SmackDown brand.
James has been with WWE since 2014 and served as the co-lead writer for Friday Night SmackDown over the last year. He previously held the position of head writer for the blue brand before transitioning to a role at the Performance Center to assist with NXT in 2019. Following a brief release in 2022, he returned to the fold in an executive capacity under the leadership of Triple H.
WWE Creative Team Undergoes Major Shakeup
The exit of Road Dogg comes as WWE is in the midst of significant shakeups in creative and on its writing team. Alexandra Williams recently announced on LinkedIn that she has been promoted to Vice President and lead writer for WWE RAW. Williams, who was previously a senior writer and producer, will now oversee all creative development for the flagship program.
“As VP and Lead Writer for WWE’s flagship live program, I oversee all creative development for Monday Night RAW — one of cable television’s longest-running and highest-rated weekly shows,” Williams shared. She has been credited as a rising star within the company, notably producing CM Punk’s acclaimed “State of the Union” promo and contributing to John Cena’s recent retirement tour segments.
The restructuring of the creative department follows a series of internal adjustments aimed at building momentum for the 2026 season.
