On the latest “Oh…You Didn’t Know” podcast on AdFreeShows.com, Former WWE star/Producer Road Dogg covered Royal Rumble 2012 and his return to the company. He also talked about making amends with The Undertaker, The Rock’s return and more.
Road Dogg talked about mending fences with WWE when Bob Armstrong got inducted into the 2011 WWE Hall of Fame. Prior to that, Road Dogg and Billy Gunn were known as VKM in TNA. The letters stood for Voodoo Kin Mafia but were seen as a shot at Vince McMahon. There were also thing said about Triple H, Shawn Michaels and others while they were in TNA.
Road Dogg in on the conversations about his return to WWE: “‘What do you think about coming back and doing what we used to do backstage with the skits with DX? I think we could do that again together and be successful.’ I said, ‘Well, heck yeah I will.’ He said, ‘Okay, cool. Let me get to work on it.’ Well, he worked on it, and it took him several tries because Vince was not keen on the idea. It was totally understandable why he was not. I’d been sober about 10 months or 11 months when I got to go to Atlanta and inducted my father into the Hall of Fame. I’m pretty sure that was prior to this conversation with Hunter. I’m not 100% on that, but I’m almost positive that conversation with Hunter happened prior to all this. I got to go and induct my father in the Hall of Fame. By doing that, I also got to go to the day of rehearsals and everything and spend some time with Vince, Kevin Dunn, just apologized to some people and looked some people in the eye and shook their hands. He (Hunter) believed in me. He believed I could bring something to the product. They brought me in for a little bit to try me as a producer or an agent.”
Road Dogg on almost coming to blows with CM Punk in WWE:
“Me and CM Punk almost went to blows when I was a producer on a live event. We had to get called into Vince’s office at TV and make nice and shake hands. I never thought Punk was what Punk was. But again, I know he is what he is. I know he’s hugely successful in this industry and over. I give him all the credit in the world. I just didn’t get it. I see it now. I still don’t get it, but I see it, so I know it’s true. But me and him didn’t see eye to eye early on. He was the champion at the time. It was about how he was carrying himself as the champion. I had a discussion with him that he obviously didn’t like being talked to that way. So the next time I saw him, it was not yelling in my face, but it was, I was yelling in his face. He was a lot more professional and calm than I was at the time.”
Road Dogg talking about his team with Billy Gunn being split up in 2000:
“I didn’t want that to happen. When they started to split me and Billy up, and this is a true story, I literally cried tears in Vince McMahon’s office and said, ‘I don’t think I can carry this on my own.’ I didn’t believe in myself. Vince talked me up and talked me out of there. I walked out of there feeling great and doing the Intercontinental and the Hardcore title, but I had already started really going down a dark path with my drug use and stuff by then.”
