Rob Gronkowski is officially done with WWE.
As first reported by Raj Giri at Wrestling Inc., Gronk exercised a release clause in his contract since he is returning to play in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers alongside Tom Brady. This would explain why Gronk dropped the 24/7 Championship to R-Truth this week on Monday Night Raw.
It’s an abrupt end for his time in WWE because there were plans to have him wrestle at SummerSlam in Boston, with Mojo Rawley being involved somehow and possibly as his opponent.
Giri also noted that the release clause means that he cannot work for another wrestling company for a set period of time.
Gronk and WWE have a good relationship so I would not rule out the possibility of both sides working together in the future. Gronk could still make appearances or opt to wrestle once his NFL career is done.
