On the latest episode of 1 Of A Kind, Rob Van Dam talked about the riskiest move he’s done in a match, which was in ECW while battling Bam Bam Bigelow.
“Well, the one that sticks out in my mind is the jump that I did from the top rope out to Bam Bam Bigelow, which everyone has seen. It’s been played, ooh, eat that one. It’s been played a million times, you know. And the reason is, it was a risk, like I’m standing up there on the top rope, Bam Bam Bigelow. Those out in the crowd, fifth row, the way the story goes. But sometimes, when you go to jump off the rope, the rope will slide. There’s a steel cable, and there’s like a hard plastic hose over the cable. And if it slides, if it spins, then you’re fucked, because then, then your momentum is going to go and you’re not going to be able to push off.
And I remember when I was standing there, I was thinking, like, I really want to be able to push off and get as much distance, but if it rolls on me and my feet slide underneath me, I’m probably going to hit that guard rail like on the back of my neck somehow and die. And I remember thinking that, and you know, usually the hard plastic cable covering is taped in the corners. But all of us that have been around for a while have had some experiences where that shit rolls, comes undone or whatever, and now it’s what was going through my mind.”
