Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has responded to recent comments from UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall, who named the WWE legend as a dream opponent for a potential crossover match. The Rock, who now sits on the board of directors for TKO Group Holdings, the parent company of both WWE and UFC, offered high praise for Aspinall, stating that he believes the MMA star would be a “great WWE performer.”
The conversation began during a recent interview on Kiss Xtra, where Tom Aspinall discussed the idea of one day stepping into a WWE ring. When asked who he would want to face, Aspinall highlighted several “old school” stars he admired and specifically named The Rock as a dream opponent. The Rock was made aware of these comments in a later interview with the same outlet and offered a response in two distinct parts: one from his wrestling persona and one from a more personal perspective.
In character, he said, “There’s one answer, as The Rock, which is like ‘I’ll Rock Bottom his candy ass’”. Dropping the persona, Johnson then shared his thoughts on the UFC champion. “But then there’s the other answer, which is, I love Tom, I’ve got a lot of respect for him,” he said. “I think he’d be a great WWE performer. He’s the kind of guy who’s just disciplined and committed, and he’s a fan.
Tom would be fun, that’d be great. I’d take him… take him to lunch.” The Rock’s position on the TKO board of directors gives his comments significant weight, as he is now in a position to help such crossover opportunities. After becoming one of the biggest stars of the Attitude Era and a multi-time world champion, he successfully transitioned into a movie star, becoming one of the highest-grossing actors in Hollywood.
