With the news that more releases may be on the way, at least one more WWE star has asked to be let go from his contract.
Fightful noted today that Roderick Strong has asked to be let out of his contract. The report states that he asked for his release “multiple times” over the last several months. It’s worth noting that just because someone asks for a release does not mean it will be granted. It was also noted in the report that NXT sources said that a name change was pitched for Strong and he opposed the idea. Many in the company were surprised that he wasn’t included in the last round of releases since he had asked multiple times to be let go.
Strong has been in NXT for almost 6 years and there’s no indication that he’s main roster-bound so he may see the writing on the wall. In addition, his wife Marina Shafir now works for AEW and all of his Undisputed Era teammates (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly) are regularly featured on AEW television.
At 38 years old, Strong’s chances at making it on the main roster appear to be slim but the report states that WWE sources are saying that there are no plans to release him because they have creative plans in place for him.
