Roman Reigns has playfully suggested that Cody Rhodes was nervous about sharing the set with him during filming for the upcoming “Street Fighter movie,” claiming the WWE Champion may have even requested to avoid crossing paths with the Tribal Chief.
Speaking to Adam’s Apple, Reigns was asked about Cody’s comments that the two weren’t around each other much on set. Reigns had his own version of events.
“The rumor is, he was requesting that,” Reigns said. “He was a little nervous that I was showing up. He got there before me and there was only a couple days of crossover. I think he was a little nervous. You know what it is. The Tribal Chief comes to town and he gets a little nervous. He doesn’t know what to do.”
Cody previously told an interviewer that people on set thought the two would actually fight while filming, and that production staff was mindful of keeping them apart. Cody described their relationship as both crazy and strange, given their extensive history in WWE.
The two are playing characters from the beloved fighting game franchise in the film, with Reigns portraying the villainous Akuma and Rhodes playing the all-American hero Guile, a casting choice that mirrors their real-life dynamic as opponents. The two faced each other in the main events of WrestleMania 39 and WrestleMania 40, with Rhodes ultimately ending Reigns’ historic Undisputed WWE Championship reign at the latter event. The two later teamed together at Survivor Series 2025.
The film is set in 1993 and follows estranged Street Fighters Ryu and Ken Masters who are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament. The film is directed by Kitao Sakurai from a screenplay by Dalan Musson and features an ensemble cast including Jason Momoa as Blanka, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Andrew Koji as Ryu, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, 50 Cent as Balrog, and Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki. Principal photography began in Australia on August 18, 2025, and filming wrapped on November 12.
The new film will be the first live-action adaptation of the popular video game franchise since the 1994 cult classic starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile. t is distributed through Legendary’s new global distribution deal with Paramount Pictures and was co-developed and co-produced alongside Capcom, the developer and publisher of the video games. The film is also shot in IMAX. Street Fighter is scheduled to hit theaters in October 2026.
