Roman Reigns discusses backstage relationship with John Cena
No Mercy will feature a WrestleMania-worthy match with John Cena and Roman Reigns. But even though these two guys look like they’re at each other’s throats on-screen it turns out they have a much better relationship in real life.
Roman Reigns recently spoke to CBS Sports on the “In This Corner” where he opened up about several subjects including what kind of a relationship he has with John Cena backstage.
“I’ll be completely honest: Me and John have always been cordial, but I would not say we are close friends by any means,” Reigns said. “There is a business respect, but I think that’s what makes this so special that we’re truly competing against each other and I think people see that.”
“I’ve definitely gotten better on the stick working with John.” He also mentioned how even though it can get intense in the promos, he doesn’t take anything to heart or let it bother him too much.
“But it’s not like a situation where I’m taking anything he says to heart because I don’t really care what he thinks about me. If you care for someone and they knife you, it’s going to hurt. It will hurt your feelings and can depress you. But when you don’t really care about somebody or their opinion, it doesn’t affect you. And that’s how it is with me and John.”
We’ll have to see how things play out at No Mercy. But at least it’s good to know as hard as they might fight each other hard they still get along well backstage.
