Roman Reigns’ Planned WWE WrestleMania 42 Opponent Revealed

Roman Reigns has officially punched his ticket to Las Vegas. “The Tribal Chief” became a two-time Royal Rumble winner on Saturday, January 31, winning the Men’s Royal Rumble match to close out the 2026 Premium Live Event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Reigns last eliminated GUNTHER to secure the victory and a guaranteed championship opportunity at WrestleMania 42.

Reported WrestleMania Plans

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the current plan is for Roman Reigns to challenge CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42. This bout would mark the first singles match between Reigns and Punk since January 2014. The two men did face off recently in a Triple Threat match that also included Seth Rollins in the main event of WrestleMania 41 Night 1, but a one-on-one showdown has been over a decade in the making.

The Undisputed WWE Championship Picture

On the other side of the bracket, the Undisputed WWE Championship match is currently scheduled to feature Drew McIntyre defending against Cody Rhodes. However, the report indicates a potential twist in the booking. There is a possibility that Jacob Fatu could be added to the WWE Title match, turning it into a Triple Threat contest.

Meltzer noted that the original direction for the Undisputed WWE Championship was intended to be Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns for the third time in four years. However, WWE reportedly scrapped those plans after setting up the contest at Survivor Series, opting to pivot toward the Reigns vs. Punk matchup instead.

WrestleMania 42 is set to take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19.
