From a creative standpoint, Roman Reigns is booked as a top star, but his win-loss record backs up the fact WWE protects “The Tribal Chief.” They also used him on selective dates due to his part-time schedule, and he rarely wrestles at house shows or on television.
The run
Reigns had two notable streaks snapped in 2023 as Reigns defended his title against Seth Rollins in the opening contest of the Royal Rumble but lost the match via DQ when he didn’t break the referee’s count while having Rollins in a guillotine choke. This was his first PPV loss since Drew McIntyre eliminated him in the 2020 Royal Rumble. It also marked his first singles match loss at a PPV event since 2019, when he received the End of Days from Baron Corbin in a TLC match at the TLC pay-per-view event.
He suffered his first clean PPV loss at Night of Champions when Reigns and Solo Sikoa lost to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the Tag Team Titles, thanks to The Usos. Reigns and Sikoa later lost to The Usos at Money in the Bank.
Latest milestone
Reigns’ last match was a successful defense as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion against LA Knight in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel. He returned to television this past Friday on SmackDown, where he did a segment with Randy Orton.
Wrestle Features pointed out that Reigns has surpassed four years since the Corbin loss in 2019, marking the last time he was pinned in a singles match.
