Roman Reigns recently appeared on ESPN’s Cheap Heat podcast to promote this Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in which he will challenge Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship. During the interview, he was asked how he has changed his character and the way he wrestles since being booed by the fans at the 2015 Royal Rumble PPV, which he won. He said that it pushed him as anytime a wrestler is in a live situation it triggers your emotions. He noted that if anybody is dedicated to something, then they want to get better, so they use it as motivation. He said that at the end of the day, the amount of people screaming and booing their lungs out means that he is doing something right. He noted that he has the elimination record in the Royal Rumble match, so WWE better keep him out there. He said that if he was another WWE star, the last thing he wants to hear is that Roman Reigns is coming into the match.
When asked about how important his feud with AJ Styles was for him last year, he said that anytime he had been asked to step up into an occasion then he will rise above it. He said that when you are given an opportunity, you have to put your head down and focus on it, which is something that he has done in recent years. He doesn’t care about winning awards or who is the best in pro wrestling, he is just focused on staying healthy and putting on entertaining shows. He noted that he now takes a lot of pride in his matches and his performance. He said that he wants to see people after the match and that his goal is to be well-rounded. He said that it was a weird situation with Styles, but he noted that he thinks he is a good athlete and can have a five-star match with anyone.
