WWE scored a major signing in Ronda Rousey earlier this year. The former UFC women’s bantamweight champion has decided to hang up her MMA gloves for now, in favor of living out a lifelong dream of being a professional wrestler. She has surpassed fans’ expectations as it pertains to her in-ring skills, having put on several solid matches thus far.
Rousey’s WWE debut nearly stole the show at WrestleMania 34, when she teamed up with Kurt Angle to defeat Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. She has since won the Raw Women’s Championship, and was ranked number one on PWI’s ‘Women’s 100’ list. Recently, Rousey made an appearance on the PWI Podcast to talk about her WWE run.
“The Rowdy One” said she recognizes that she has a very “privileged” position with WWE, and would be spitting in the face of every other woman who would want her opportunity if she didn’t take full advantage:
“I’m very aware of how privileged I’ve been from lot of people who worked their entire lives just to get somebody to take one look at them. And from day one, I don’t know anything and I have, like, Triple H telling me how to tie my shoe.
“Like, Triple H taught me how to tie my boots! Like, that is insane.” Rousey said. “I think it would be spitting in the face of every woman that would want this opportunity to not take full advantage of it.”
In regards to Rousey’s WWE schedule, the former UFC champ typically only works once a week for TV. However, Rousey will make the occasional live event tour. She has shied away from working a Brock Lesnar-type of schedule, despite certainly having the star power to do exactly that:
“Being on the road and everything has given me a lot more respect for what everybody else does.” Rousey said, “I mean, honestly, when I came into this, I thought everybody just wrestled once a week! I just thought they showed up at RAW or SmackDown [Live] and that was it.
“I didn’t even know that there were live shows throughout the week! I mean, and these people just go nonstop. Like, I have nowhere near the schedule that everybody else has. Like, if I’m on a week of live shows, it takes me a week to recover from it. If anything, I have the super easy tourist version.
“Like, I have nothing to complain about! I do whatever I can to perform whenever they need me to perform, but I have a much easier schedule than everybody else.”
