There’s a rumor circulating on social media in recent days about the possibility of an AEW wrestler showing up at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
The rumor apparently started after a tweet from Wrestlevotes about WWE trying to get an “unexpected” forbidden door entrant for the Men’s Rumble match. The person who runs the Wrestlevotes account was skeptical about this happening but said that WWE is open to the idea. It was never said by Wrestlevotes that WWE was looking to reach out to AEW.
Rumors intensified on Friday night after SmackDown because WWE aired video packages of The Shield to hype the upcoming Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. Jon Moxley, as the Dean Ambrose character, was featured in the video packages that aired on Friday and led to some to speculate that perhaps he will appear in the Men’s Rumble.
Dave Meltzer confirmed today that there will be no AEW involvement in the Royal Rumble pay-per-view and Moxley will not be on the show. That should put a lid on the rumors that have been picking up steam on social media.
At this point, there is no word on potential surprises expected for the show.
Had more than 1 source this weekend, w/o me directly asking, state they believe WWE will try for an “unexpected” forbidden door entrant for the Men’s Royal Rumble. Personally I’m skeptical it happens, but I can confirm WWE is at least open to the idea. Which is exciting enough.
