Rumor killer on Dolph Ziggler’s opponent for WWE SummerSlam

The Miz TV segment on this week’s WWE SmackDown Live made it look like Dolph Ziggler would be facing either The Miz or Shawn Michaels at SummerSlam.

The superkick at the end of the segment from Ziggler to HBK might lead to something (or it might not) but it won’t be a match at SummerSlam.

As noted by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ziggler is scheduled for a match at SummerSlam but his opponent is currently unknown. The only thing known is that it’s not Michaels and people in WWE are claiming that it’s not The Miz, even though it certainly looks like Miz vs. Ziggler is the storyline direction.

Michaels has made it clear in interviews that the show in Saudi Arabia last year was a one-off thing and he considered that a glorified house show and not a real comeback match. This week on SmackDown Live, Michaels admitted that he was embarrassed at that last match. “I’m not gonna disagree with you, I was embarrassed,” Michaels said during his promo on SmackDown Live.

So you can cross Michaels’ name off the list for a comeback match at SummerSlam, at least according to what WWE sources told Dave Meltzer.

A rumor made the rounds today claiming that Meltzer reported that Goldberg would be wrestling Ziggler or “might be” wrestling Ziggler. Neither of those things were reported.

The Goldberg speculation started because Ziggler has mentioned him in his recent promos but there’s nothing to the rumors and there are no plans to bring Goldberg back.

However, there is a former WWE star returning in a diffrent match at SummerSlam. It’s a spoiler but you can click here if you want to know more.
