Rumor killer on Ronda Rousey “dream match” for WrestleMania

Earlier this week, there was a rumor going around about UFC’s Cris Cyborg going to WWE for a match against Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania.

The rumor got started when Cyborg appeared on Ariel Helwani’s MMA show on ESPN and said that she would be interested in the match. Of course, she’s said similar things in previous interviews and even teased a match with Becky Lynch at last year’s SummerSlam.

It looks like there is no smoke to this story because, as reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one person in WWE who would be in the loop on this has said that the idea of a match with Cyborg has never been brought up to Rousey. The match could never happen without her approval and the feeling is that she wouldn’t want to do it.

There is legitimate bad blood between Cyborg and Rousey. There was a public narrative that Rousey never wanted to fight Cyborg. However, the story put out by Cyborg’s camp was false and Rousey had agreed to fight her at 135 pounds and said that during her entire reign as UFC Women’s Champion.

Meanwhile, UFC management was not happy with Cyborg putting on more weight and thus making it impossible to get the Cyborg vs. Rousey fight they wanted. The first UFC women’s fight was originally supposed to be Rousey vs. Cyborg but those plans were derailed for various reasons. It looks very unlikely that we’ll ever see it in MMA or in WWE.

The only thing that is known right now is that Charlotte Flair vs. Rousey is still a possibility for WrestleMania but that is not locked in.
