A new report has clarified the main event plans for last Sunday’s WWE Clash in Paris premium live event. According to Cory Hays of BodySlam.net, the fatal four-way match for the World Heavyweight Championship was always scheduled to headline the show, and the bout between John Cena and Logan Paul was never discussed for that spot, despite a rumor to the contrary that had been circulating online.
The main event of the show saw Seth Rollins successfully defend his World Heavyweight Championship in a fatal four-way match against CM Punk, Jey Uso, and LA Knight. The finish of the match came when Becky Lynch, Rollins’s wife, interfered and delivered a low blow to CM Punk, allowing Rollins to hit his stomp for the victory. This finish has led to speculation about a potential mixed tag team match pitting Punk and his wife, AJ Lee, against Rollins and Lynch.
According to the Fightful Select report, the speculation is not just coming from the fans. “WWE sources have indicated that AJ Lee’s name has been brought up in numerous pitches internally of late,” the report states. It was also noted that some of those pitches “weren’t quite shut down like they used to be.”
While the report makes it clear that a return is not confirmed, the interference from Lynch at Clash in Paris has WWE sources “hopeful that the pitches they’ve been hearing about were related to that.” CM Punk recently did a nod to his wife at a European live event by skipping around the ring in her signature style. AJ Lee has been retired from the ring for over a decade, with her last match taking place in March 2015.
Earlier in the show, John Cena won his match against Logan Paul, earning his 98th career victory at a WWE premium live event. The match was a featured bout on the card as it was the co-main event and part of Cena’s ongoing retirement tour.
