Fans have really gotten behind Rusev for the past several months. The SmackDown Live star has risen in popularity with the creation of his “Rusev Day” gimmick.
Despite receiving a recent WWE Championship opportunity against AJ Styles, which he lost, fans feel as though WWE is underutilizing “The Bulgarian Brute.” Last night at SummerSlam, Rusev opened up the show with his match. He teamed up with his wife, Lana, as they took on Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega.
Rusev and Lana lost the match-up. Before SummerSlam, however, Rusev did an interview with The Gorilla Position to talk about several professional wrestling topics. He was asked about how he feels he’s being used in WWE. Rusev said he can’t control the way WWE books him.
Instead, he goes out to the ring each and every night and puts on the best performance possible – which is the only thing he can control:
“I have no control over any of that,” Rusev said. “I’m there to perform to the best of my abilities and whether I’m first on the card or last, champion or not, I mean I’m just gonna be me and keep doing what I do best.
“Eventually, one day you know cream rises to the top. So you know I’m waiting… I’m waiting for the rise.”
