Ryback has sounded off on CM Punk joining the WWE Backstage show on FOX Sports 1 instead of All Elite Wrestling.
There is history between Ryback and Punk. During Punk’s appearance on Cabana’s “Art of Wrestling” podcast from November of 2014, the former WWE Champion blasted Ryback by telling stories of him being unsafe in the ring and accused him of steroid usage.
While talking on his podcast, Ryback talked about Punk’s decision, which he thinks comes down to a weird chess game as Punk at one time didn’t want anything to do with pro wrestling but is now back talking about WWE despite not being under contract with the company.
Ryback thinks this “is going to create a situation where he is going to probably be able to go back and get the WrestleMania main event match that he always wanted. That is what I feel like is going on, and that is why I feel like he didn’t go to AEW.”
Ryback brought up how Punk’s big goal was to main event WrestleMania but never did despite being one of the biggest stars that WWE has ever had. Ryback thinks that since Punk has been out of the WWE bubble that there’s no chance of him working a full-time WWE schedule ever again.
“It’s like Shawshank Redemption, once you are out, it is a beautiful thing when you are truly free from there. There is a weird dynamic going on where he is allowed to come on and shoot. I am sure Vince and Hunter are not thrilled about this, but Punk has figured out a way. His plan blew up in his face to go to UFC after two losses, but still found a way to be in that circle now. I’m telling you I would not be shocked for him to be figured into the main event of a WrestleMania after all of this.”
