Ryan Reeves is apparently following The Ultimate Warrior’s footsteps in his attempt to gain ownership of the “Ryback” name.
On his recent podcast, he said that he was looking at legally changing his name to Ryback Alan Reeves. Reeves said, “It’s not uncharted territory, but it kind of is too in a way. I legally went and changed my name to Ryback, for many reasons, one of which it was one thing that I did not own, and I created and I used before my time with WWE.”
Reeves said that he went through the proper procedure in Clark County, Las Vegas. There’s no word on the outcome but he was supposed to go in front of a judge on 9/1.
He also said that it’s not fair to wrestlers that they can’t use their character name when they leave WWE and that there is a big difference between “The Big Guy” Ryback vs. just Ryan Reeves. Reeves owns “The Big Guy” and “Feed Me More” trademarks and he is using “The Big Guy” on twitter which could mean that he has not had his name legally changed to “Ryback.”
